Member Messages

It was with extraordinary sadness that last night the committee accepted the resignation of our Chairman Jim Briscoe.
Jim has been a member of Pleasure Folk for almost 20 years and has served the society honourably. We will all miss him dearly, although we do hope he won't ever become a stranger.

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Martin Jones to the committee as our new Chairman. Martin is a
founder member of the society and has agreed to take over the role of Chairman until the next AGM. If anyone has any problems, queries or concerns, please speak to Martin at rehearsals.

Below is a message from Jim which he has asked to be posted here.

"Folks its with a real saddnees in my heart that I write this message. As most of you will know by now I've left Pleasure Folk for reasons which I would like to keep personal.

The past 18/19 years have been some of the best times of my life, I've made so many friends; I've sang, danced and told stories with many great actors and actresses all of whom I would like to thank personally! I've been able to act, dance and sing (not very well before anyone esle states the obvious) with both my daughters, something that I never imagined would happen in a million years, only regret- wish I'd started earlier!

I think I can 'stand here' and say that my time as Chairman as been a succesful one - when I took over things were really dire - we were struggling both on and off stage, but with a great deal of hard work/time/effort/energy and support I think we've turned the society round and although possibly still a little short to cast membership, I think I leave the society on a reasonable footing.

To the Committee I'd like to thank you for for your support, I know at times I could have handled things better, but I'm only human! To members past and present - its been great working with you all, I wouldn't have missed it for the World!

Leaving the Society will leave a huge void in my life - but sometimes you've got to do things for the right reasons and although the right reasons are probably two fold, I do feel a little hurt and a little let down if I'm honest!

Folks I'm sure the society will continue to grow and develop or at least I hope it does, but can I just remind people that this society has been here a long time, as have some of its members; some longer than others! Don't always knock those that have been around a long time, they may say things that may be out of turn, things that you nor I will agree with, but haven't we all! But don't forget, they've been here for the long haul, through thick and thin - if you shout for help, there the first to jump, the first with their hands in the air, the first there in the morning when scenery is being moved, that last there when scenery is being put away - they really do love this Society!

PEOPLE COME, PEOPLE GO, PEOPLE USE, PEOPLE ABUSE DON'T FORGET, SOME PEOPLE NEED THE SOCIETY AS MUCH, IF NOT MORE, THAN THE SOCIETY NEEDS THEM - SOMETIMES NO ONE ESLE WANTS THEM, BUT IF THEY DID WOULD THEY BE HERE! I ALWAYS HAVE UNTIL RECENTLY - CAN YOU SAY THE SAME!"
